CBT Motorcycle Course For Novice Riders
If you're over 17 A1 licences are available for those who are 17 and older. A1 licence allows you to remove your L plates, ride a scooter, or a small motorcycle, and carry a pillion rider.

Compulsory basic training (CBT)
CBT is a must-attend course for all riders who are new to the sport. It usually takes a whole day to complete. If you achieve a satisfactory level at the completion of the course, your instructor will award you a DL196 certificate of the course's completion.
In this course, you will learn to operate on a motorcycle. You will be supervised throughout the course by a knowledgeable instructor. Additionally, you will be offered an hour of theory to teach you about the road code, the rules of the road, and safe lane positioning. You'll be taught how to inspect and maintain your bike, and how to carry a pillion passenger (if applicable).
The next phase of the CBT involves practical riding on the spot. Your instructor will mark an area that is safe where you can practice your abilities. The course will begin slowly and work through basic safety checks before moving on, stopping the motorcycle, and braking properly. Your instructor will be in radio contact with you during this time and will be there to assist you until they are satisfied that you can perform the exercises safely. level.
This section of the course introduces you the various types and conditions of traffic and roads. You'll learn how to safely navigate traffic lights and roundabouts as well as how to use one-way streets. You'll also learn the fundamentals of cornering figures of eight, and emergency stops.
This is the final portion of the CBT. Your instructor will take you on a variety different routes. You'll be in radio contact with your instructor, who will monitor your progress at all times. You'll be awarded an CBT DL196 Certificate if you are able to prove that you are able to operate a motorbike and handle various road situations.

Module 1 Theory Test

Module 2: Practical Test
Module 2 is the practical part of your motorcycle licence. After you have passed Module 1 and the theory test, you are now ready to take Module 2. The Mod 2 test is a test of riding skills that includes about 10 minutes of independent riding. The examiner will be following you along a predetermined road route with varying traffic and road conditions. The route will include busy junctions, roundabouts and dual carriageways and you'll need to be able to navigate in diverse conditions.
In addition to being able to navigate busy roads in addition, the Module 2 test will assess your ability to be observant and anticipate. Licensing

You must be at least 16 years of age to be enrolled in the Basic RiderCourse (BRC). If you are younger than the age of 18, you will need a signature from a parent or guardian on both the Covid Release, Waiver and Indemnification forms (click here) and the Motorcycle Safety Program Parent/Guardian Agreement form. Your guardian or parent must also complete the MSF's ecourse prior to taking your BRC class.
